Two families, Raymond and Helen Heendeen and George and Gladys Rothgeb and friends were meeting in their homes in the late summer of 1964. They began the process of establishing a new ministry in Angola. Rev. Darold Beck, wife Janice and daughters became the first Senior Pastor of the new Angola Assembly of God (Pastor Beck shown in the picture to the right). An old vacant church on 212 E. Mill street was purchased and remodeled. The first service was held on Sunday, November 29, 1964. Twenty-five people attended the first service. The new church enjoyed gradual and continual growth. Pastor Beck was able to resign his secular job and pastor full-time in September of 1972.
Outgrowing the church on Mill street and a house rental as an annex, the congregation began to search for property on which to build. The congregation was able to purchase 18 acres of land on State Road 827, in Angola, in December of 1978. A groundbreaking service was held and new construction began in April of 1980. On November 9, 1980 the congregation moved by caravan to the new Assembly of God church, which is known today as 1405 Williams street.
In 1985, the church expanded and a fourth dome was added (known as the south dome) and a parsonage was built on the church campus. In 1992 as the church continued to expand, the Family Life Center was constructed. It consists of a Gymnasium, Classrooms, Large Kitchen, Youth Student Center, Cafe', and Kid's Ministry Center.
In 2000, Pastor Beck retired after serving the Assembly for 35 years. Pastor Chris Cain, wife Nancy and family were invited to become the new Senior Pastor. A position they served until November 2003. Pastor Cain oversaw the construction of the Bus Barn and the additional Garage on campus.
Rev. Ronald Moore and wife Marsha became the Senior Pastor in 2004 and served until August of 2014, at which time they retired from pastoring. Under Pastor Moore's leadership the main Sanctuary was remodeled and expanded to accommodate future growth.
Rev. Glen Mitchell and wife Sue served the church during the interim period while the congregation searched for their new Pastor.
Pastor Gowen, wife Kim, and their son Preston were voted in January of 2015 as Lead Pastor. Since that time the church has experienced significant growth Spiritually, Materialistically, and Financially. Missions giving and support have increased and 2016 has been a record breaking year. New ministries have been launched and the church is experiencing a Spirit of Revival presently. In the last two years, Pastor Gowen has over seen two major renovation projects to the church facilities and grounds that were desperately needed. Under Pastor Gowen's leadership the pastoral staff has increased. Rev. J. Derek Gowen, wife Beth, and their three children have been brought on as the full-time Associate Pastor. God has been good and is still blessing AAOG as they continue to grow and pursue God in the wake of their rich heritage.
